The company was founded by industrialist and entrepreneur Manoel Vieira de Araújo in the 1930s, and is still family-owned to this day. Viarco, which is an acronym for Vieira Araújo & Companhia, has been brought back into the spotlight thanks to A Vida Portuguesa, a Lisbon-based, women-owned shop focused on the traditional craft of Portugal. This particular pencil is made of cedar and a 5mm core of water-soluble graphite, so you can blend with water for a wash effect or keep it dry for an intense deep black.
