To mark Her Late Majesty The Queen becoming the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, the British Hallmarking Council created a hallmark, which depicts 'EIIR' over '70' within an orb. Dating back to the 14th century, UK hallmarking has provided customers with a sign of excellence, origin and approval on all jewellery passed through their Assay Offices for inspection. The marks consist of- Makers mark- Who made your jewellery. Traditional pictorial mark- What metal your jewellery is made from. The standard mark- Indicates the fineness of the metal. The assay mark- Where your jewellery was hallmarked. The date mark- This will show a letter which will indicate the year your jewellery was made.
