Class 5 shut down in the early 1980s but their stuff is so well made and long lasting that we get excited whenever we run across a piece we don't already have. The company was founded in Northern California by one of the head designers of the North Face (he was a Ski Hut/Trailwise alumnus much like the other early Northface team). Class 5 designs, craftsmanship, and approach to marketing set it apart from the other excellent Bay Area outdoor companies emerging roughy around the time, like Sierra Designs, Kelty, and Holubar. You should look up some of their crazy "Smoke with Us" or "The People's Good Time Company" and their beautiful, hand-drawings.
