They are mainly protesting social and economic inequality, corporate greed, corporate power and influence over government (particularly from the financial services sector), and of lobbyists. The participants' slogan "We are the 99%" refers to income inequality in the United States between the top 1%, who control about 40% of the wealth, and the rest of the population. The amazing growth of the Occupy movement really shows how the message hits a nerve shared by most of the country and the rest of the world. This "fight the power" design is the perfect way to help spread the word. We all can't be down there protesting, but we can certainly help spread the message.
