An intricate 18ct yellow gold, enamel, emerald and ruby Renaissance revival dress ring from the Victorian period. Catching the eye with expertly modelled detailing an antique cushion cut emerald (0.28ct) and ruby (0.40ct) takes centre stage. Securely claw set these gemstones have been parallel set, and surrounded by a bold framework of dark blue enamel. The shoulders and under bezel of this beautiful ring feature swags, cartouches and scroll work that have been richly decorated in enamel. Perfectly complementing the two centre gemstones this enamelwork has been expertly applied in a distinctive colour palette of red, blue, green and white. Intricate and highly decorative Renaissance revival jewellery was incredibly popular during the Victorian period. These pieces were inspired by a fascination with the 16th-century Tudor court, and the lavish jewels depicted in the surviving portraits painted by Hans Holbein the Younger (c. 1497-1543). Similarities can also be seen in the 400 pieces of Elizabethan and Jacobean jewellery discovered in Cheapside in 1912. A true feast for the eyes this ring dominates with superb detail and colour; the under bezel has even been richly enamelled with a stylised X and two H motives.
