Heat (outside of burning) and sunlight can melt wax causing uneven burning and/or degrade fragrance materials causing scent to weaken. Burning candles for 3-4 hours will help wax melt evenly to prevent tunneling. Avoiding prolonged burning and trimming the wick to 1/4-inch before each burn prevents smoking, wick mushrooming, and soot marks.
