One of Japan's oldest sneaker companies was founded in 1949 when Kihachiro Onitsuka started sewing shoes in his Kobe living room with the hopes of boosting postwar morale by getting young people into athletics. It worked. Onitsuka Tiger took off in a big way, joining up with basketball players, marathon runners and Nike founders alike along the way. Eventually it grew into the company we know today as ASICS. The GSM (Game, Set, Match!) is a super-classic sneaker inspired by 1980s tennis style, and kind of a wardrobe chameleon. It'll look good with most of the stuff in your closet.
