This interest led us to multiple pioneering female scientists and artists this season, who have broken boundaries and made knowledge and discoveries accessible to the masses. Jane Colen, commonly acknowledged as the first female botanist in what would become the United States began because of her father, who is quoted in his writings, "I thought that botany is an amusement which may be made agreeable for the ladies who are often at a loss to fill up their time". Unlike most male botanists of the day, Colden noted the practical uses of each plant in medicine and cooking, and even attributed these details to the country people or local indigenous people who taught her, all whilst not venturing far past her own family acreage. For Prefall we looked to document the space our brand inhabits, it is one that is largely digital while we continue to reside and travel around the world. Our garden to cultivate and document is one made of pixels, a landscape with infinite possibilities. Our imaginations were sparked by documenting a new species of plants that we could create digitally with the intrigue and precision of a botanist. Florals that could never exist in our world were sketched and then knitted into jacquards this season in unnatural colorways.
